Welcome! =D

Welcome to this page, KPOP World In Me.

Basically, this page is for my college purpose.

Last year (2013), I was required to create a blog and to talk about the things I like. Therefore, I promoted South Korea, and that was my topic for the assignment. To view them, checkout the sidebar, under the "My Previous Project" section.

As of this year (2014), for IT-subject, I was asked to create a blog again. So, I thought that I might as well use this existing blog and fortunately, my lecturer allowed me to do so.

In summary, all I want to say is that this is NOT a personal blog. Although the website is called "KPOP World", but it will contain non-KPOP related topics...

That is all from me. Happy reading~~ ^^

P/S - I found out that you need to refresh the page whenever you first open the page. This is to get the correct fonts that I've set for this page.

Hallyu Wave – Part 2

Date: 10th July 2013
Time: 9.00 p.m.
Place: Home
----------------------------------------------------------

Still remember my last week’s post on KPop as well as some little stories of the top 3 record labels? In today’s post, it will be about KDramas and KMovies.

Like I’ve said before in my previous post, Hallyu Wave or the Korean wave started from the Korean Dramas. In Malaysia, the first drama that was broadcasted on Malaysia TV, TV3 was Winter Sonata in year 2002. The next dramas following Winter Sonata are Autumn In My Heart, Spring Waltz, Love in Paris, Love Story in Harvard, Full House and up until today, the trend is still going on, with the latest KDrama on 8TV, Rooftop Prince and on TV9, Arang and the Magistrate, both in Korean language with Malay subtitles. To show my love towards KDramas, I have made a compilation videos of all the dramas that have been broadcasted on Malaysia free-TV from the year 2002 until the current days based on what I could remember. Overall, there are about 97 KDramas that have aired on TV and I have only uploaded until Part 3, which stopped at the 53rd drama.

- View the other two parts through the links posted in that video description -

The influence of KMovies arrive along with KDramas and KPop music too. There is no results nor findings on the first KMovie that was aired in Malaysia TV. But, currently, there is a segment from TV9, whereby every Sunday 10a.m., they will broadcast a KMovie. This shows how great is the popularity of Hallyu Wave until Malaysia TVs made a segment or slot just to broadcast the KDramas and KMovies, with its original language, instead of Chinese dubbing along with Malay subtitles. However, the only bad thing is that Malaysia rarely buys KMovies to show on cinemas. Well, not just in Malaysia, I guessed that most of the countries besides Korea buys KMovies to show on cinemas. Probably, it is expensive and also majority still favour Hollywood movies than Kmovies. So far, I only remembered three KMovies that were distributed to Malaysia cinemas, which are The Tower, The Thieves and Code Name: Jackal. These movies are casted by popular actors such as Simon Yam (Hong Kong actor), Kim Soo Hyun (well known as the King in ‘The Moon that Embraces the Sun’ KDrama) both in The Thieves, as well as Song JiHyo and Kim JaeJoong (JYJ’s member) in Code Name: Jackal and lastly Son YeJin in the movie, ‘The Tower’.

Next, we will look into thetop 3 Korea TV & Radio Broadcasting Stations; SBS, MBC and KBS. These stations are very competitive with one another especially on their variety shows and dramas, but no one will know who had the most profits, unlike the 3 record labels whose the best and top is known by the people. Not only that, the reason why we would not know is because the drama awards are held separately among the stations. Therefore, there are 3 Entertainment Awards and 3 Drama Awards. The companies are not competing with one another, but the dramas within the same broadcasting stations are the ones competing to crown as the top and favourite drama award.

KBS, short form of Korean Broadcasting Station is well-known for its long history, as it started out in year 1927. There are two divisions under KBS, which are KBS1, which airs mostly on public information films by KBS, while KBS 2 airs variety shows/programmes and dramas only, as well as national news. KBS World is also under KBS, where it is an international tv and radio service for the other countries, including Malaysia whereby it is distributed under Malaysia’s paid- satellite tv channel, Astro. The famous dramas that are broadcasted by KBS over the years are Wonter Sonata, Autumn In My Heart, Spring Waltz, Summer Scent (a compilation of 4 seasons-theme dramas), Hwang Jin-I, Boys Over Flower, King of Baking: Kim Tak-gu, The Fugtive: Plan B, Dream High, Love Rain, IRIS I, IRIS II, and The Innocent Man (also known as Nice Guy).

Meanwhile the popular variety shows they have are Gag Concert, Happy Together, 2 Days 1 Night (One Night 2 Days, if direct Korean translate),  Hello Counselor, Let’s Go Dream Team! , KBS Music Bank, and Star Golden Bell, who had ended its show due to the low rating on 2010, but it was still known to be successful show for 5 consecutive year, 2004 - 2010).

Following KBS, it is MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation) which started in 1959 as a radio station at first and after 10 years of development, MBC started to have their tv broadcast in 1969. There isn’t any international service from MBC. But, they are still very popular and famous for its dramas and variety shows. Some of the famous dramas from them are Hotelier, All About Eve,  My Love Patzzi, Jewel In The Palace (Dae Jang Geum), My Name is Kim Sam Soon, First Love of A Royal Prince, Coffee Prince, Goong (Princess Hours) , Goong S (Prince Hours), Dong Yi, Beethoven Virus, and The Moon that Embraces the Sun. Meanwhile the popular variety shows from MBC are MBC Music Core, Come To Play (ended last year due to internal issues), Infinity Challenge and We Got Married.

The last in top 3 most popular and largest broadcasting station is SBS (Seoul Broadcasting Station), which started in 1991 as a private broadcasting station until year 1995, when it officially became the national television network and followed by the launching of ‘SBS fm’ radio station in year 1996. In Malaysia, SBS shows, programmes and dramas are aired under ONE / ONEHD channel on Astro. The famous dramas from SBS are Love Story in Harvard, Beautiful Days, Successful Story of A Bright Girl, Save Your Last Dance For Me, All In, Stairway To Heaven, On Air, Iljimae, You’re Beautiful, My Girlfriend is Nine-tailed fox, City Hunter, Secret Garden, Rooftop Prince and Gentleman’s Dignity. Meanwhile, the popular variety porgrammes from SBS are Challenge 1000 Songs, Intimate Note (2008-2010), Family Outing (2008-2010), Star King, Strong Heart (re-launched with a new format and title - Hwasin), Laws of the Jungle, SBS Inkigayo (similar as KBS Music Bank and MBC Music Core), Barefoot Friends and Running Man, which is very popular among international KPop fans, as it is proven to be very popular in Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, Macau,  Thailand, Hong Kong and also Malaysia. Moreover, Running Man is also crowned for 3 consecutive years for the most popular variety show among the netizens.
